Today’s Commons debate on the extension of a State Visit to Donald Trump confirms that Conservative Brits are as gullible as many of their American G.O.P. counterparts. “He can be moderated, taught and brought along to reason” are the Tory cries. Yeah, Neville Chamberlain. Two thousand years of Western democracy surrendered to our new Fuhrer. Where is Churchill? British national interest? You don’t even realize that Donald Trump’s power is a chimera. He will be gone in due time, but meanwhile U.S. Republicans and Democrats alike, along with the emerging foreign policy establishment, will decide NATO and trade policies, not Donald Trump. America’s best policy would be to beg The Queen to return us to her Commonwealth, and not allow The Fool to represent us. Actually, if Donald Trump had an ounce of respect, he himself would inform the weakling Theresa May that a State Visit would not be possible at this time. Keep waiting.
