It is amusing to note that the Weekly Standard has finally caught up to reality, as argued today in Jonathan Last’s article on dumping Trump immediately. Sorry, but it’s too late to save the Senate, as it was noted here on July 29th. What poor Jonathan misses is the fact that the GOP is gone, at least until 2024, and quite possibly forever.
Why? Because after November 8th, the GOP regulars will turn on the Trump crazies, as expected. Because the latter are truly, and medically, deficient, they will form their own ultra-Tea Party movement, which itself will be permanently (for a generation) alienated from all political parties. Insanity impairs any semblance of political judgment.
That leaves us with a sharp Democratic Party, peeling off several segments of the remnants of the GOP (college-educated suburbanites). As it is likely that 8 years of HRC will stabilize our economy, the shards of today’s GOP will, as uncle Karl said, wither away.
