The Syrian Regime’s use of chemical weapons in violation of UN mandate has provided President Trump with an opportunity to salvage his presidency. In view of his reputation for shrewdness, which has not yet materialized in his first eighty days, this is his final chance. Since former President Obama’s failure to enforce the “Red Line” in 2013, critics of the use of military force have provided no solutions to Assad’s disdain of U.S. and western opinion. A definitive action at this time will provide the President with a decisive change of momentum, for both the U.S. and the President personally. First, Putin’s Russia only respects a demonstration of strength. Second, and more importantly, North Korea will take notice. And, most important of all, the entire world will breath a sigh of relief that the U.S. has not withdrawn from the earthbound community. Liberal handwringing over Putin’s faux military and a Vietnam-Iraq quagmire can be exposed, especially in the physical presence of China’s Emperor Xi. Of course, an additional minor benefit will be the attention of Congress and a skittish public opinion. Mister President, do not fail all of us now.
