Elements of the 2nd Regiment of the California Militia, a terrorist organization, confronted Highway Patrol officers defending the Capitol Building. Though unarmed, the terrorists were garbed in military fatigues and presented an intimidating presence to civilian passersby. The terrorists did not attempt to charge through the CHP defensive lines, but their mere presence brought bitter memories of Hitler’s brownshirts to many World War II veterans. Comments to the Sacramento Bee reporting were mixed, indicating at least some acceptance of the terrorists’ action.
